Wind Farms & Solar Farms

There are presently four wind farm projects with cable routes which impact directly on Cawston.  Hornsea 3 (Orsted), Norfolk Boreas and Norfolk Vanguard (both Vattenfall) have now been approved by the Secretary of State and work is expected to commence in the coming months and continue over a period of 6 years or more.

Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon extensions, aka SEP & DEP (Equinor) have told us they will put in an application for planning permission soon, and this will then be subject to public hearings by the Planning Inspectorate.

These cable routes involve construction works about the size of a motorway, which will be passing close by our village to the west (Hornsea 3) and north (Vattenfall). Equinor’s route is planned to pass Cawston to the east.  This work will have a big impact locally, with large numbers of both HGV and smaller traffic passing through the village from the main compounds at Oulton.

The Parish Council is fully supportive of renewable energy and the drive to net zero, but we are also concerned over the impact of these projects locally and we have been working hard to reduce the effects on our community.

We have already managed to obtain some significant concessions and changes from the original plans and continue to liaise with the wind farm companies as the schemes move forward and more detail is announced, to achieve the best possible outcomes.
